My Past and My Future
by Marta Timar
My name is Marta
Timar. I was born on May 21st, 1968 in the Hungarian town of Kiskunfelegyhaza.
I lived there until I was 18 years old. I attended elementary school and
then I attended high school. My favorite subjects were literature, grammar
and drawing. I attended a teachers' training college in Baja for 3 years.
Then I taught for 2 years in Kiskunfelegyhaza. Then in 1991 I moved to
the capital of Hungary, Budapest, where I taught in an elementary school.
I taught Hungarian literature, grammar and drawing to children, ages 6
through 10.
I really loved life in Budapest. It is very beautiful town! I made a
lot of friends in Budapest. Last summer I met my fiancee there. He is
an electrical engineer. He is Roumanian, but when I met him he had a job
in Denver, Colorado. He invited me to come to the USA. Just two weeks
ago, he asked me to marry him.
I arrived this past February in Denver. Unfortunately, we had to move
away from Denver after only 3 weeks, beacuse my fiancee got a new job
in Washington. We have been in Arlington now for 2 months.
My future
First I would like to have a child. I would also like to learn English.
My teaching certification is not valid in the United States. I would like
to teach, but not knowing English is a big disadvantage. I would like
to go back to school, but I don't know what I want to study yet. I would
like to work. I would like to return to Hungary to visit my parents and
my friends in the next year. I would like to own a new house in Arlington
or in Alexandria. And eventually, in about ten or fifteen years, I would
like to return to Hungary with my husband-to-be and live near my family.
